Sri Lanka, Oct. 27 -- The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the implementation of recommendations to provide compensation and relief to prison officers who were killed or injured during the clash at Negombo Prison on July 5 and 6, 2026.

Accordingly, a special compensation payment of Rs. 5 million will be granted to the family of each deceased prison officer, in addition to the compensation payable under Public Administration Circular No. 22/93.

Approval has also been granted to pay Rs. 5 million to an officer who has become permanently disabled, Rs. 4 million to an officer who has suffered partial disability resulting in a 100% loss of earning capacity, and Rs. 3 million to an officer who has suffered temporary partial disability.
