CAA finds 35 underweight bread cases in islandwide raids
Sri Lanka, Oct. 4 -- A special islandwide raid and investigation programme was carried out against those selling bread not of the prescribed weight and failing to display weight and price.
The Consumer Affairs Authority executed the operation.
A total of 107 shops and bakeries were inspected during the operation carried out on 29 September, recording 35 cases related to underweight bread, the authority stated.
In addition, weight was not displayed in 85 locations, and price was not displayed in 55 locations.
Instructions were issued to officers to extend investigations beyond retail traders down to the bakery that manufactured the bread whenever underweight bread was found.
