Sri Lanka, March 10 -- A businessman who allegedly defrauded millions by posing as a permanent employee of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) remains in custody until the 12th.
The Kaduwela Magistrate's Court ordered the suspect to be remanded following his arrest by the Bureau's Special Investigation Division.
The suspect, a resident of Peradeniya, reportedly claimed to provide agricultural sector jobs in South Korea under the E-8 visa category.
According to reports filed by the SLBFE, he allegedly charged Rs. 3.4 million per person for these services.
To make the scam more credible, he summoned victims to the front of the Bureau's headquarters and acted as though he worked within the premises.
