Businessman and another arrested over two million rupee bribe allegation
Sri Lanka, July 28 -- The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested a businessman and another individual on charges of soliciting and accepting a bribe of two million rupees along with aiding and abetting the offence.
The arrest relates to a tender called for supplying food items required for cooking in the kitchens of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for the year 2027. Investigations revealed that to enable the complainant to secure the tender, the suspect initially demanded a three million rupee bribe to withhold tender applications obtained in the names of his father and uncle, which was subsequently reduced to 2.5 million rupees and finally to two million rupees.
