Buses to undergo inspections every 5,000 km
Sri Lanka, July 27 -- The National Council for Road Safety states that steps are being taken to make mandatory inspections for all passenger transport buses after every 5,000 kilometres of operation.
The Council noted that driver negligence and vehicle defects have contributed to many road accidents reported across the country in recent months.
Chairman of the National Council for Road Safety, Manjula Kularatne, said the new measure is aimed at identifying and rectifying vehicle defects before they lead to accidents.
He stated that once the recruitment of qualified inspectors is completed, mandatory inspections for public transport buses will begin, with the programme expected to be implemented within the next three months.
