Sri Lanka, May 17 -- The Batticaloa Magistrate's Court ordered the closure of a prominent hotel in Batticaloa for a period of two weeks yesterday evening. Magistrate authorities also imposed a fine of 50,000 rupees on the establishment.

The court handed down the ruling following accusations that the venue sold food items unfit for human consumption.

Public Health Inspectors inspected the hotel under the instructions of the Batticaloa District Regional Director of Health Services and the guidance of the Batticaloa Medical Officer of Health.

Reports indicated that the court previously warned the hotel on two separate occasions.
