Bambalapitiya restaurant fined Rs. 1m over water price
Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court No. 5 has ordered a restaurant in Bambalapitiya to pay a fine of Rs. 1 million for selling a bottled drinking water container above the maximum retail price stipulated by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The Consumer Affairs Authority filed the case against the relevant restaurant company, and the court issued the fine after the company pleaded guilty before the judiciary, according to an announcement by the authority.
Under order number 96 published in extraordinary gazette number 2492/29, the maximum retail price designated for packaged drinking water ranging from 500 millilitres to 999 millilitres is Rs. 80.
