Authorities fine shop over fertiliser price breach
Sri Lanka, June 6 -- The Matara Magistrate's Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on a shop in the Matara area for altering fertiliser prices and selling them above the regulated rate. In addition, the shop owner has been sentenced to a one-month suspended prison term.
The Consumer Affairs Authority conducted a raid on the business following information that fertiliser was being sold after changing the maximum retail price.
During the inspection, authorities also seized 179 sacks of 50 kg urea fertiliser with altered controlled prices, and the court ordered that they be confiscated.
Furthermore, the relevant fertiliser company was also fined Rs. 100,000 on charges of altering prices and offering the product for sale.
