Sri Lanka, Oct. 13 -- Australian biosecurity officials have prevented a traveller returning from Sri Lanka from bringing elephant dung fridge magnets into the country, warning that animal waste products could pose risks to agriculture, the environment and wildlife.

The traveller declared the unusual souvenirs, made from elephant dung, upon arrival in Australia.

Authorities cautioned that animal waste could contain harmful bacteria, parasites, insect larvae and weed seeds, potentially endangering livestock and introducing invasive plant species.

Despite being sold as souvenirs, the magnets were not permitted entry under Australia's biosecurity regulations.
