Sri Lanka, Nov. 5 -- Attorney general to present government's position on organised crime bill on monday

The attorney general is expected to present the government's position before the supreme court on monday (09) regarding petitions challenging the proposed organised crime prevention bill presented to parliament.

The matter came up before the Supreme Court today (05), when 26 petitions challenging the constitutionality of the Bill were taken up for hearing.

The petitioners have argued that several provisions of the proposed legislation violate the Constitution and have sought an order requiring the Bill to be passed with a two-thirds majority in Parliament and approved by a public referendum.
