Sri Lanka, Sept. 6 -- Amendments to the three main local government statutes-the Municipal Councils Ordinance, the Urban Councils Ordinance, and the Pradeshiya Sabhas Act-are in their final stages, according to Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Ruwan Senarath.

Speaking at an event held at the Malimbada Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium, the Deputy Minister stated that Cabinet approval has also been received to amend seven other acts related to local governance.

He noted that the government has commenced revising outdated provisions across these statutes to align local government legal frameworks with modern requirements.
