AG directs CID to name Namal Rajapaksa as suspect in Airbus deal
Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- The Attorney General instructed the Criminal Investigation Department to name MP Namal Rajapaksa as a suspect in the Airbus case before the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court.
The case involves former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena and his wife over alleged bribery in the procurement of aircraft.
The AG issued the directive after investigations revealed that primary suspect Kapila Chandrasena allegedly handed over a portion of the bribe money to Namal Rajapaksa.
Accordingly, the CID will file a motion to recall the case, present the new evidence before the Colombo Fort Magistrate, and request an order to formally name Rajapaksa as a suspect.
