Sri Lanka, Oct. 4 -- Thundershowers expected across several islandwide areas during afternoon hours over the next few days.

The Department of Meteorology stated that these rains could affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Western, and North Central provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts.

The department urged the public to remain vigilant as there is a high likelihood of severe lightning accompanying the rains.

Police advised drivers to exercise heightened caution when navigating roads, particularly around the central hills due to the rainfall.

Drivers received notices to stay alert to the risk of landslides and falling rocks triggered by heavy rains in the hill country over recent days.
