Sri Lanka, Sept. 8 -- Thirty-one Sathosa outlets were closed down between January 2024 and October 2025, Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development Deputy Minister R. M. Jayawardena stated.

The disclosure came in response to an oral query raised by Opposition Member of Parliament Chanaka Madugoda in Parliament today.

Jayawardena added that 424 Sathosa outlets operated islandwide as of 17 August 2026.

Opposition Member of Parliament Chanaka Madugoda noted that a shortage of several essential items currently affects Sathosa outlets.
