Sri Lanka, June 2 -- Three suspects were arrested in the Mugammana in Dehiattakandiya, while illegally excavating in search of ancient artefacts, the Police said.

The arrests were made yesterday (01) during a raid by the Police following a tip-off.

The suspects, aged 24, 27, and 37, are residents of Akurassa, Bogaswewa, and Dehiattakandiya.

A range of excavation tools used in the alleged illegal activity were also seized by police.

The suspects are due to be produced before the Dehiattakandiya Magistrate's Court, while investigations are continuing.
