Sri Lanka, June 2 -- The Epidemiology Unit states that 237 suspected meningitis patients were reported from several areas of the island.

Meanwhile, 33,572 dengue cases and 19 deaths occurred so far this year, according to the Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, Specialist Dr Ananda Wijewickrama.

Over 50% of the patients came from the Western Province, with a higher number of cases reported from the Colombo, Gampaha, and Kurunegala districts.

Against this backdrop, the Ministry of Health announced that the 8th, 9th, and 10th of this month are declared as special mosquito control days.
