Sri Lanka, Oct. 31 -- The Irrigation Department stated that 12 major reservoirs and nine medium-scale reservoirs continue to spill over due to heavy rainfall caused by adverse weather conditions.

The department announced that spill gates of five major reservoirs were opened.

Yoda Wewa, Tissa Wewa, Wehemadilla, Tabbowa, and Alikota Ara reservoirs are among those with opened gates.

Spill gates of two medium-scale reservoirs were also opened, and it was noted that 74 reservoirs under the control of the Irrigation Department maintain a total water capacity of 45.2 percent.
