Sri Lanka, April 28 -- The Vesak Poya day falling on May 1st was changed based on the political needs of the government, states the Anunayake of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, Aggamaha Pandita Professor Venerable Kotapitiye Rahula Thero.

Speaking at a press conference, the Thero noted that the Vesak Poya day underwent this change to accommodate May Day celebrations.
