Sri Lanka, July 17 -- Keeping pets is a key element of culture, whilst protecting the lives of stray animals remains a responsibility for everyone, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said.

The Prime Minister made these remarks whilst participating as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the 'PET EXPO 2026' exhibition, which commenced at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall today (17).

The Sri Lanka Companion Animal Veterinary Association organised the exhibition, and the Prime Minister also inspected the 'Aloka' exhibition stall, which was allocated within the exhibition premises to raise social awareness regarding the safety and welfare of stray animals.
