India, Aug. 13 -- A 16-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur allegedly staged his own kidnapping after losing nearly Rs.3 lakh in online games and sent his father an AI-generated image to make the abduction appear genuine, police said on Thursday.

The Class 11 student reportedly had his Delhi-based girlfriend help him to make the abduction appear genuine. Using artificial intelligence, they created an image showing the teen with blood smeared across his face and tape covering his mouth, PTI reported.

The student then sent the photograph to his father on WhatsApp along with a message demanding Rs.1 lakh. The message also said that he would be killed if the money was not transferred.
