UK spy agency MI5 accuses Chinese institution of espionage by funding AI research: 'Threat to national security'
India, Oct. 1 -- United Kingdom's security service MI5 accused a Chinese academic organisation of spying on British research on artificial intelligence. The spy agency sent out an "espionage alert" on Wednesday accusing China of spying through funding for academic research.
MI5 said that the China General Technology Research Institute (CGTRI) has "very strong ties" to the Chinese civilian intelligence and security service.
"MI5 has identified that the primary purpose of CGTRI is to fund academic research that directly improves MSS technical capability for espionage," the alert said.
