India, Aug. 23 -- US President Donald Trump on Saturday once again shared a map showing the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for the movement of global oil, natural gas and other supplies, as "new US territory", even as Iran maintained that the crucial waterway would remain closed amid stalled diplomatic talks.

Notably, oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have come to a near halt, and Tehran has warned that it could strike unauthorised oil tankers attempting to pass through the vital waterway.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared an image of a map in which the strategic chokepoint was marked as the "new US territory".

He had previously shared the same image on August 18.
