New Delhi, April 9 -- An acrimonious matrimonial battle between a couple that spanned across 80 cases for over a decade was given a quietus by the Supreme Court, which termed the marriage "dead" for all practical purposes and described the dispute as a "matrimonial battle of Mahabharata". In its order passed on Tuesday, the court exercised its extraordinary constitutional power under Article 142 to annul the marriage, grant separation, and direct payment of Rs.5 crore to the wife and the two children as full and final settlement of all claims, while ordering closure of all pending litigation.
