India, May 30 -- Stones, eggs and even sandals were thrown at TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday as he visited post-poll violence in South 24 Parganas. Banerjee had gone to meet the family members of TMC worker Sanju Karmakar at Sonarpur, who was allegedly killed in post-poll clashes, when he came under the attack.

BJP workers also shouted "chor chor" slogans and Banerjee had to enter the area wearing a helmet as eggs, sandals and stones were thrown at him. Reports said that the TMC MP was roughed up by 'unidentified' people who even tried raining blows and kicks on him.

He was seen being escorted out of the area with a police helmet on and his shirt tattered.
