VARANASI, March 21 -- A 23-year-old Bachelor of Arts (BA) student was shot dead allegedly by a fellow student at Udai Pratap Autonomous College in Varanasi on Friday following an altercation, police said, adding the accused has been arrested. The incident, which took place around 11am under the Shivpur police station limits, triggered protests on the campus, with students overturning barricades and damaging property, police said. "Some shops in the vicinity were also shut as tensions flared. Police personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.
