India, Oct. 14 -- The Savitribai Phule Teachers Association has accused the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) administration of yielding to political pressure and failing to support faculty facing interference in their academic and administrative responsibilities. The association has threatened a collective reading protest outside the university building if the situation persists.

In a letter dated October 13 addressed to the vice-chancellor, the association said SPPU had built a reputation as one of the country's leading universities through its strong academic and administrative traditions. However, it alleged that increasing political and organisational interference was undermining the institution's functioning.
