Sensex, Nifty open lower amid US-Iran sanction war
India, Aug. 25 -- Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty opened lower on Tuesday, August 25, amid intensifying geopolitical tensions, primarily due to the fresh US sanctions on Iran. Nifty was below 24200 on opening, while Sensex traded at 77,309.84, 0.077 per cent down, at around 9:25 am.
Sensex and Nifty ended lower on Monday as well amid geopolitical heat and elevated crude oil prices.
Despite a positive beginning on Monday, the 30-share BSE Sensex failed to carry forward the momentum and declined 171.72 points, or 0.22 per cent, to settle at 77,369.11. During the day, it dropped 339.17 points, or 0.43 per cent, to 77,201.66, according to data cited in a PTI news agency report.
