SC orders scrutiny of ARCs, flags misuse of public money
New Delhi, June 20 -- The Supreme Court on Friday took up the conduct of asset reconstruction companies (ARCs) and what it said was nexus with banks in a case where a borrower that defaulted on Rs.1,537 crore in loans was allowed to settle with an ARC for just Rs.73.50 crore-a loss of over Rs.1,464 crore in public money.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant issued notice on a public interest litigation filed by three lawyers, seeking a probe into what the petitioners called "the most documented, forensically verified instance of this systemic abuse."
