New Delhi, Sept. 9 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday exempted actor Rajpal Yadav and his wife from surrendering in seven cheque bounce cases subject to deposit of Rs.5 crore with the court registry within 24 hours. The top court granted conditional relief because the deadline for surrender was expiring on September 10.
The Delhi HC had on July 10 sentenced Yadav and his wife to three months imprisonment in seven cheque bounce cases. However, the HC allowed Yadav two months to challenge the order before the SC.
A bench headed by CJI Surya Kant said, "Subject to deposit of Rs.5 crore by the petitioners with the registry of this court by tomorrow, they are granted exemption from surrendering." HTC
