India, April 10 -- The Supreme Court on Friday refused to grant bail to suspended Punjab deputy inspector general (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while granting him liberty to revive his plea if the trial does not commence within two months.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi said that it found no merit in Bhullar's plea challenging the denial of bail by the Punjab and Haryana high court. The bench, however, added that Bhullar would be at liberty to approach the court again in case of delay in commencement of trial.
