SC allows TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee to travel abroad for eye surgery
India, Aug. 10 -- The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee to travel overseas for three weeks to undergo eye treatment.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana passed the order while hearing the Diamond Harbour MP's challenge to a Calcutta High Court decision that had refused him permission to travel abroad for treatment, news agency PTI reported.
Banerjee had approached the Supreme Court after the high court rejected his request on August 5. The high court had noted that he was unwilling to appear before the medical board at the state-run SSKM Hospital the following day for an assessment of his medical condition.
