New Delhi, Sept. 10 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Himachal Pradesh government to withdraw prosecution in 39 criminal cases against former and sitting MPs and MLAs, finding that none involved grave or heinous offences and that the cases largely related to protests and alleged use of force against officials during Covid pandemic.
The state had moved the application in 2024 seeking withdrawal of 65 cases against politicians across party lines.
Since then, the Himachal Pradesh HC has allowed withdrawal in 15 cases, while the remaining cases were closed after the accused politicians were either acquitted or discharged, leaving 39 cases for consideration by the Supreme Court.
