row erupts over local trinamool leader's death in police custody
Kolkata, Aug. 9 -- A political storm erupted in West Bengal after a local Trinamool Congress leader allegedly died in police custody at Halisahar in North 24 Parganas on Saturday.
The deceased, Birju Keot, was the husband of Jenny Sharma Keot, ex-councillor of Kanchraoara Municipality. Police said he was arrested on August 1 and booked under BNS sections relating to cheating, assault, outraging a woman's modesty and the Arms Act.
"On Friday night my husband was beaten up mercilessly inside the police station. His hands and feet were tied... Blood had oozed out of his ears. There were multiple injury marks on his back," Keot told media.
