New Delhi, July 29 -- The financial health of public sector banks (PSBs) has improved sharply, with combined net profit touching a record Rs.1.98 lakh crore in 2025-26 and gross non-performing assets (NPAs) falling to a multi-decadal low of 1.9%, the finance ministry told Parliament on Tuesday. Data tabled in the Rajya Sabha by minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary showed PSBs' combined business grew over 56% over four years, from Rs.181.5 lakh crore on March 31, 2022, to Rs.283.3 lakh crore on March 31, 2026. The combined deposits of the 12 PSBs rose about 46% during the period, from Rs.107.2 lakh crore in March 2022 to Rs.156.3 lakh crore in March 2026.
