India, Aug. 14 -- President Droupadi Murmu, in her Independence Day-eve address to the nation, said the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan was a "decisive step" in the interest of India and its farmers. She cited the country's support for terrorism and said the decision showed the government's firm stand against terrorism.

She also spoke about India's journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047, the valour of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor, reforms in the examination system and the country's digital transformation.

The President spoke about poverty reduction, financial inclusion and the government's efforts to make public examinations more transparent, secure and trustworthy for young people.
