Powerlifter Ashok ends 4th, Jadumani in last 16
Mumbai, July 25 -- Para powerlifter Ashok Malik finished fourth in the men's lightweight category, even as India's boxing campaign got off to a winning start at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Glasgow on Friday.
Ashok, the 2024 Paris Paralympian from Sonipat, finished just outside the podium with a total of 143.8 points, behind England's Mark Swan (153.9 points), Nigeria's Roland Ezruike (153.9) and Malaysia's Bonnie Bunyau Gustin (153.5). The Indian successfully attempted 195kg and 200kg, but couldn't lift 205kg for his third attempt.
Ashok was struck with polio at age five. He was inspired to take up a sport while watching the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi as a college student.
