India, Aug. 14 -- The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning a 200 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant at Khadakwasla to strengthen the city's long-term water supply. The municipal commissioner, Naval Kishore Ram, on Wednesday discussed the availability of 2.5 hectares of land for the project with officials of the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS).

Ram visited the CWPRS campus at Khadakwasla and held discussions on making the land available to the civic body for the proposed treatment plant.

"The project is part of a new water supply scheme for 16 villages merged into the PMC limits, for which the civic body has secured Rs.890 crore under the Urban Challenge Fund from the Centre," Ram said.
