New Delhi, Oct. 29 -- The Centre on Wednesday approved a Rs.7,359.55 crore scheme to strengthen grassroots governance across over 255,000 panchayats and traditional local bodies, with a focus on integrated village development plans, digital monitoring and greater financial accountability, a government release said. The Pradhan Mantri Viksit Gram Swaraj Yojana (PM VGSY), a centrally sponsored scheme, will run from 2026-27 to 2030-31, it said. The Centre will contribute Rs.4,869.48 crore, while states will put in Rs.2,526.07 crore.
