PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 17 -- The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday asked the state government to file counter affidavit on a habeas corpus petition filed by journalist Satyam Verma, challenging his preventive detention under the National Security Act, for his alleged participation in the April 2026 workers' protest in Uttar Pradesh's Noida. The bench comprising justices Atul Sreedharan and Achal Sachdev posted the matter for October 7 for the next hearing. According to the petitioner, the detention order was allegedly based on a "factually impossible" premise that Verma was involved in the violence in Noida on April 13, 2026.
