India, June 5 -- Calling it a "violation of human rights", the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) on Thursday took suo motu action over a video of an allegedly drunk policeman in Thane and summoned the Thane Police Commissioner (CP).

The summons issued by commission chairperson AM Badar said the commission had taken suo motu cognisance of the video on June 1 and summoned the senior police official "for having failed to take necessary action in respect of its grievance". It asked the police commissioner to be present before the commission on August 4 and submit a response in writing.
