Mohali, Feb. 19 -- A local court has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for the murder of a Mohali resident whose body was dumped in the Bhakra Canal in 2021. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.2.8 lakh and ordered Rs.2.5 lakh as compensation for the victim's family.

The convicts, Pankaj Sharma and Daljit Kaur, were found guilty of murdering the victim over personal and business-related disputes involving alleged blackmail and an illicit relationship.

According to the prosecution, on February 13, 2021, police received information about a body floating in the Bhakra Canal under Pasiana Police Station in Patiala district. The deceased was later identified as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Mataur village in Mohali. A missing person re...
