Japan Airlines set to deploy robots for baggage handling
New Delhi, April 29 -- In a novel initiative, Japan Airlines (JAL) will begin deploying humanoid robots for ground handling duties at Tokyo's Haneda airport beginning next month.
The Chinese-made humanoids will handle luggage and cargo movement on the tarmac at Haneda airport, which records more than 60 million passengers a year, The Guardian reported.
JAL is expecting that the trial which ends in 2028 will lessen the burden on employees and tackle future labour shortages.
The airline aims to deploy them on a permanent basis as the country grapples with a rise in inbound tourism and declining working-age population.
