Prayagraj, Nov. 8 -- The Allahabad high court has criticised the Uttar Pradesh Police over alleged unlawful detention and repeated instances of missing CCTV footage, describing the state of civil liberties in Uttar Pradesh as "shameful" and saying the police have little regard for citizens' rights. "The situation that exists in the State of Uttar Pradesh relating to the civil liberty is shameful, to say the least. The police appear to have little regard for the fundamental rights and civil liberties of citizens, and the infringement of these rights seems to have become a matter of routine for the UP Police," the division bench said in its November 3 order.
