HC quashes FIR against ex-Axis MF chief dealer
MUMBAI, Aug. 16 -- The Bombay high court on Friday quashed an FIR against Viresh Gangaram Joshi, former chief dealer of Axis Mutual Fund, in a case alleging he misused confidential information to make illegal profits through a "front-running" racket.
The court did not hold that the allegations were false or that Joshi was cleared of wrongdoing. It quashed the FIR on a legal ground under the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Act, 1992.
A single-judge bench of Justice Ranjitsinha Raja Bhosale held that the allegations primarily concerned "front-running", an offence covered by the SEBI Act.
