India, Sept. 1 -- India's gross Goods and Services Tax collections in August neared Rs.2 lakh crore with 14.8% year-on-year increase despite 68% annualized jump in refunds and higher imports, according to government data.

The gross GST collection in August 2026 was Rs.1,99,853 crore as against Rs.1,74,116 crore in August 2025, which continues to reflect India's economic resilience and effective compliances, the data released by the finance ministry on Tuesday showed.

The net collection after Rs.31,795 crore refunds in August this year was Rs.1,68,057 crore as compared to Rs.1,55,181 crore in the same month of previous year, registering 8.3% growth. Refunds in August 2025 were Rs.18,935 crore, according to the official data.
