New Delhi, July 9 -- Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced a crackdown on the alleged misuse of general power of attorney (GPA) documents to evade stamp duty, saying every property-related GPA presented for registration in Delhi will now be subjected to detailed scrutiny before it is approved. The move comes after the government found that, in several cases, documents effectively transferring ownership or possession of a property were being registered as GPAs by paying only a nominal stamp duty instead of the much higher duty applicable to a sale deed.
