KANPUR, April 16 -- A 17-year-old student died by suicide at her house in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district on Wednesday, weeks after she was allegedly gang-raped by three minors from her village, police said. Her family has accused the local police of diluting their complaint and failing to act against the accused, a charge refuted by senior police officers. The family said that on March 4, the Class 11 student had gone to fetch water near her house when three boys allegedly pulled her into a nearby field and raped her. Her younger brother later found her there in a semi-clothed condition after she did not return.
