India, Dec. 10 -- Hibernation is a well-known phenomenon that several animals undergo during winter. Snakes, on the other hand, go through a similar phenomenon called brumation. This is a period of very little activity, where these reptiles can go for long periods without eating, drinking, or defecating, as per A-Z Animals. They are alert but largely inactive.
