India, Aug. 13 -- Former Trinamool Congress MLA Nirmal Ghosh was arrested in Odisha on Thursday over allegedly 'hastily cremating' the junior doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital two years ago, police said.

The development comes after a direction issued by West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari two days earlier, when he attended an event marking the second death anniversary of the doctor and asked the police to file a separate case examining the circumstances of the cremation.

Adhikari had raised questions about the cremation, including the alleged waiver of the cremation fee and the lack of signatures from the victim's family members on the relevant documents.
