EC-appointed poll observer chosen as advisor to Bengal CM
Kolkata, May 10 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI)-appointed special observer for the West Bengal assembly elections Subrata Gupta was on Saturday chosen as the advisor to state's new chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, according to a government communique.
"The governor is pleased to appoint Subrata Gupta as advisor to chief minister of West Bengal with immediate effect and until further orders," said an official notification.
During the special intensive revision (SIR) in the state, the EC had appointed Gupta, a retired IAS officer, as the special roll observer. Later, he was appointed as the special observer ahead of the assembly elections. The EC released him on May 7, three days after the results of the polls were declared.
